Napkin folding techniques
Add that finishing touch to your tablesetting with just the right amount of elegance. Below are easy to
follow steps to fold napkins into creative designs.
The Rose
- Fold all 4 corners of open napkin to center.
- Fold new corners to center.
- Turn napkin over and fold all 4 corners to center.
- Holding center firmly, reach under each corner and
pull up flaps to form petals. Reach between petals
and pull flaps from underneath.
The Rose Bud
- Fold napkin in half diagonally.
- Fold corners to meet at top point.
- Turn napkin over and fold bottom 2/3 way up.
- Turn napkin and bring corners together, tucking one
into the other.
- Turn napkin around and stand on base.
The Arum Lily
- Fold napkin bringing bottom up to top.
- Fold corners to top.
- Fold bottom point up to 1” below top.
- Fold point back onto itself.
- Fold each of points at top down and tuck under edge of folded-up bottom and fold down one layer of top
point and tuck under base.
- Turn napkin over and tuck left and right sides into
each other.
- Open base and stand.
The Goblet Fan
- Fold napkin in half.
- Pleat from bottom to top.
- Turn napkin back 1/3 of the way on right (folded)
end and place into goblet.
- Spread out pleats at top.
Lady Windermere’s Fan
- Fold napkin in half.
- Starting at bottom, accordion pleat 2/3 way up.
- Fold in half with pleating on the outside.
- Fold upper right corner diagonally down to folded
base of pleats and turn under edge.
- Place on table and release pleats to form fan.
The Bird of Paradise
- Fold the napkin in half and in half again.
- Fold in half diagonally with points on the top and
facing up.
- Fold left and right sides down along center line,
turning their extended points under.
- Fold in half on long dimension with edges facing out.
- Pull up points and arrange on a fabric surface.
The Candle
- Fold the napkin in half diagonally.
- Fold down the base 1/3 of the way.
- Turn napkin over and roll from the bottom to top.
- Tuck corners inside cuff at base of fold and stand.
- Turn one layer of the point down and set on base.
